About the 717 Flying Disc Club

History

The 717FDC was established in 2006 for the purpose of promoting and organizing disc golf and disc golf related activities in the area surrounding Greencastle, PA.
The first goal of the club was to coordinate the construction of a local course at the Antrim Township Community Park with the assistance of the Antrim Township Board of Supervisors and the park coordinator.
The Whispering Falls Disc Golf Course was installed in 2007 and has evolved and expanded with the park.
In 2010, the club worked with Washington County Parks to coordinate the design and construction of the Ditto Farms Disc Golf Course at Washington County Regional Park next to Black Rock Golf Course on Mt. Etna Road in Hagerstown.

Tournaments

Each year the club hosts 3 annual tournaments
The Falls Freeze
The Falls Freeze tournament is an unsanctioned tournament held in February or early March. This is a charity event that supports the Food Bank of Franklin County PA. All proceeds from the event go directly to the food bank and average $200 / year depending on turnout.

Mason Dixon Crosstown
Since the completion of the Ditto Farms Disc Golf Course, the club has hosted a class C, two day tournament in May. The first 36 holes are played at Ditto Farms on Saturday, and the second 36 holes are played at Whispering Falls on Sunday.

The Annual Harvest Tournament
The Whispering Falls Harvest tournament is held every year (since 2008) in August. This is a PDGA Class C event that has sold out every year since 2010.

Additional Tournaments:
The Ditto Decider, MD USDGC Performance Flight Finale was held in 2015 at Ditto Farms as the qualifier for the USDGC Performance Flight invitational.

Disc Golf Promotion

The club promotes disc golf in many ways. Each time the Antrim Township Community Park has an open house, the club has provided a mini-clinic where new players are shown the basics of disc golf and allowed to keep a disc if they are interested. Club member routinely carry donation discs that are given to children or even adults who we meet on the course and who would like to try it out. Some of the unclaimed discs in our found disc box are used for this purpose.
The club voluntarily maintains the disc golf courses when the parks department cannot. This includes basket repair, fairway pruning and brush removal, Tee pad maintenance or replacement, course map creation and stocking, sign design and installation, etc.
The club designs and expands the course with the approval and assistance of the Township (PA) or the parks department (MD).
The club promotes, sponsors & attends tournament at local courses on a regular basis.
The club organizes, promotes and attends tag leagues at both courses.

Lost & Found Discs

The club provides a "Found Disc" box at Whispering Falls where found discs can be dropped to be returned to the owner. We make every possible effort to locate the owner and arrange for return. If you lose a disc at Whispering Falls, and it is found and dropped in the box, the options for return are:
  1. Arrange to meet
  2. Arrange for a friend to meet
  3. Pick up at a member's house
  4. Send $5.00 to have it mailed to your home
You can also chose to donate the disc to the club.
